**Description**

 

 

 

L3 Aviation Products Division \(L3 APD\) is a leading provider of commercial and military avionics with unsurpassed performance, quality and customer support\. L3 APD manufactures a diverse line of safety\- and efficiency\-enhancing products that sets the standard for next\-generation requirements, including configurable voice and data recorders, collision avoidance systems, navigation products, display systems and processors\. L3 APD also offers aftermarket services, including MRO and integrated performance\-based logistics for military and commercial systems\. Primary business unit sites are in Atlanta, GA, Grand Rapids MI, and Sarasota, FL\.

 

 

 

The Controller will:

 

 

 

+ Report directly to site VP of Finance with significant interaction with L\-3 Corporate Finance and other Department heads

 

+ Lead and manage the preparation of site financial statements and reports in accordance with GAAP, FASB pronouncements, AICPA SOPs, SOX, CAS and Corporate/Group/Sector/Division policies, procedures, ICFRs, etc\.

 

+ Responsibility for ensuring the financial controls environment is in place and maintained as required by SOX and Corporate policies\.

 

+ In regard to EACs and program reviews, ensure:

 

 

 

+ Contract accounting is valid, accurate, complete and stated at net realizable values\.

 

+ Units\-of\-accounting are appropriate, including the impact of any change order, mods, or options and any combining or segmenting of contracts\.

 

+ Method and timing of revenue and cost of sales recognition is appropriate\.

 

+ Ensure balance sheet related accounts are valid, accurate, complete and stated at their net realizable values and the expected timing of conversion to cash in/out flows is reasonable\.

 

 

 

+ Ensure Corporate Controller's office, Internal Audit and other Corporate/Segment/Sector personnel requests/actions are responded to timely and accurately with appropriate site review\.

 

+ Direct site operational financials\.

 

+ Manage general accounting, internal audit, financial planning and reporting, overhead budgets and rates personnel\.

 

+ Perform site VP Finance function during VP absences\.

 

+ Improve processes, policies and procedures throughout Controller's span of control and influence\.

 

+ Prepare executive financial presentations\.

 

+ Maintain collaborative work environment within the Finance department and across functions\.

 

+ Effectively develop and lead a team of up to 15 people comprised of financial managers, supervisors and individual contributors\.

 

+ Provide reporting and analysis, financial understanding and business perspective on many financial and operational issues\. Examples include:

 

 

 

+ Revenue enhancement opportunities\.

 

+ Business expansion or new ventures\.

 

+ Policy or internal control related matters\.

 

 

 

+ Analyze operating procedures and expenditures on an ongoing basis and recommend/implement cost reduction plans where appropriate\.

 

+ Comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation and standards, anticipate future legislation and standards; enforce adherence to requirements; file timely financial statements and reports; optimize the site's tax position

 

+ Define and direct site accounts payable, payroll, accounts receivable, general ledger, cost accounting and financial reporting activities\. Maintain general and cost accounting systems and ensure the accurate recording and reporting of activity\.

 

+ Monitor the preparation of financial analyses, financial statements and reports for internal and external purposes, as required\. Research, formulate, recommend and implement cost effective financial and operating policies\.

 

+ Coordinate and control business planning process, incorporating information provided from all areas of the site to develop projections relating to sales, costs, income, cash flow, production levels and inventory, forward bid rates and facility and capital requirements\. Monitor performance against plan and make recommendations for corrective action as needed\.

 

+ Ensure the proper maintenance of site financial records and files and provide required resources, records and information in appropriate format as required in the course of internal and external financial audits\.

**Qualifications**

 

 

 

+ Bachelor's degree in Accounting \(MBA desired\)\.

 

+ Active CPA required\.

 

+ Five or more years CPA experience preferred\.

 

+ Must have 5 years government contract accounting experience; FAR and CAS knowledge, as well as GAAP, SOX, FASB, SOP, etc\.

 

+ Knowledge of engineering and manufacturing processes\.

 

+ Knowledge of Deltek CostPoint desired\.

 

+ Strong financial presentation and management skills and leadership experience\.

 

+ Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, capable of developing and sustaining effective peer and corporate relationships\.

 

+ High level of competence in both written and verbal skills\.

 

+ Ability to communicate effectively with others, including giving instructions, assignments and training\.

 

+ Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel\.

 

+ Team player able to work within the group as well as across functions\.

 

+ Highly motivated and disciplined individual\.

 

+ Strong analytical skills and leadership capabilities; works well under pressure\.
